Your birth plan is what outlines your expectations of your birth for your care team, but more importantly it will help you and your family prepare for the birthing process.
- How can a doula assist me with my birth plan?
Though your birthing care provider may go through a birth plan with you, a doula can discuss further options, and provide guidance and advice on what should be included and what is a realistic birth plan.
- Does my doula need to be involved in making my birth plan if I made it with my birthing provider?
While the short answer is technically no, it is in your best interest to include your doula in the planning process. Your doula will be with you during the end stages of labor and delivery and is your advocate for your wishes and needs. Developing your birth plan with your doula will allow them to use their expertise and experiences to make sure there are no loose ends or unrealistic expectations.

- What is my doula's role during pregnancy?
Your doula can serve several important roles during pregnancy including birth planning, guidance, and emotional support. A doula should be guiding you through every step of your journey to make you feel safe, educated, and suppoted.
- When should I start working with a doula.
Some clients start with a doula as soon as the first trimester while others choose to wait until closer to birth, but we suggest starting your search towards the end of your first trimester. Having a doula early allows you to ask questions, seek support, and receive more guidance allowing you to be better informed and prepared.

- What is my doula's role during labor and delivery?
Your doula will be by your side during labor and deliver providing you and your family emotional support, guidance, and will be your advocate.
- Why do I need a doula during labor and delivery if I already have a birth plan?
Though you and your birthing provider may have developed a thorough birth plan, not everything always goes as planned. Your doula will be by your side and will be able assist you in making informed decisions and navigate and hurdles.
Postpartum FAQ's
- What is my doula's role after delivery and the weeks following.
If you choose to receive post partum in home doula services your doula's main goal is to continue to support you emotionally and be with you every step of the way. Your doula will also help transition to your new life at home, help you recover from the birthing process, and assist with caring for your newborn.
- Can my Doula assist overnight?
YES! Your doula is still here to assist your whole family in this process and overnight support can be scheduled to allow for improved sleep schedules, and assist with house hold, self care, and newborn related tasks.
